WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A DIAMOND
If you’re the kind of person who demands quality then let the four C’s be your guide!
When looking to buy a diamond there are four things to consider. Those four things are known as the four C’s - Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity. A carat is the weight of the stone. For example a .50 point diamond would be a half carat and a 1.00 point diamond would be a whole carat. The heavier a diamond the more valuable it is. But bigger isn’t always better. Quality is found in diamonds of all sizes. The cut is the angles and proportions of a diamond. Classified as the shape of the diamond as well. A diamond that is cut to correct proportions will radiate fire and brilliance. If a diamond is cut to shallow or to deep, light will escape through the bottom or sides. Different types of cuts are round, marquee, princess, emerald, pear, heart, trillion, and radiant. Diamonds occur in every color of the spectrum. Yellows, Browns, and Grays are the most commonly found, but the most desirable color is colorless. Truly colorless gems are extremely rare. The less color the diamond has the more valuable it is. The color spectrum for a diamond starts at DEF and goes all the way to Z with D being colorless and Z being yellow. The clarity refers to the number of imperfections in the diamond. The majority of diamonds have some degree of inclusions in them. The fewer inclusions, the more rare and valuable the diamond is. An inclusion is a natural characteristic which forms during the crystallization process. The clarity spectrum starts at F with Flawless and goes through I which is Imperfect.
